Football Season Start Date Changes Announced

There have been two additional Conferences added to the New England Region of AYF & AYC. The regional board has scheduled Regional Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals to conclude by Thanksgiving week, and as a result NHYFSC Game Weekend #1 will be August 22nd  (one week earlier than we have typically had our first game in years past).   Labor Day weekend will continue as in the past to be off for the program.

Due to the earlier start of the AYF game schedule, the start date for our AYF football program is also moving up by one week,  The start dates for each team to begin practice this year is as follows:

Football:
  • Grade 3 & Under, Grade 4, Grade 5 & Grade 6 football will begin practice on Monday, July 26th
  • Junior Varsity & Varsity Football (Grades 7&8) will begin practice on Monday, August 16th

All CheerTeams:
  • Will begin practice on Monday, August 2nd

More details will be distributed on or before equipment pick-up day on Saturday, July 17th (at LMS) and sent via EndZone in regard to first night of practice.

Questions or concerns can be directed to: Chris Cole
Ken Sharkey (Football) or Deb Pfau (Cheerleading) .

Footbal Start Date - Vacation Conflicts

Note:  The following does not apply to the incoming 7 and 8 grades!.

I know that the early start to the season will be affecting some of you.  As an orginzation we voted against this but were out voted.

As most of you are aware the first week of practice is conditioning.  The kids need 10 hours of conditioning under LYFS coaching supervision before they can have contact.  For those of you that will not be able to make the first week because of the early start will have to have 10 hours of conditioning before your child can take part in hitting drills.  So if your child joins practice on the second week, they will participate in all drills except the hitting drills until they have accrued their 10 hours of conditioning.   The coaching staff and I are currently meeting with the Londonderry High School coaching staff every Sunday for the next several weeks.  One of the things we will be working on is to develop a practice plan for the second week to ensure that those that were not able to make the first week because of the change will be able to participate in most of the practice.

This happened to me my first year in the program.  We booked a vacation during the first week and my son had to start a week after everyone else.  He did fine and was ready for the first game.

I will keep you all posted as we develop a plan.
